It is Finished (the library that is)

At 5:30pm today the last label was put on the shelves and the tables were placed in the library.  The dream has become a reality.  Over 4000 books are now part of Lulwanda Primary School Library.  The faces of the staff and children say it all.  They are so amazed at what they have been given.  Thank you to each of you who have contributed one way or another to see this dream come true.

Our team split up into 2 groups today.  One team went with Josh to the Bible College while the other went to the children's home.  Because it is late, Josh will share his experiences at the Bible College in tomorrow's blog.  I can tell you it was a meaningful expereince for both Josh and the pastors.  He is so gifted that he can relate to anyone when he is speaking.  One comment he did make, is that they told him other white skined pastors who have come teach them knowledge, while Josh was teaching them relational material.  They enjoyed that very much.  More to come on that tomorrow.

Leon, Pat and Becca went with Josh so Leon could visit with the staff more about the plans for the Bible College.  He received some much needed ideas.

The Lulwanda team continued the library most of the day.  For those of our family, you would not believe that J.W. was teaching a local how to use the miter saw and sander.  You must understand that J.W. and power tools do not go together well.  No fingers were lost, and 5 stools and one bench were made.  Hopefully they hold together!  Ha!  It was great to see his patience (for once) as he worked with Michael (the janitor at the school).  It is a good thing Michael did not understand Tex Mex, because I think I heard some not so good words.

Marc spent his day working on the computers trying to get them all working so he could work with the children learning how to type.  We brought a typing program with us, and he has had his hands full trying to get them all working properly.  After lunch he spent some time with the older children.  We are grateful to have him with us to help in this area.

Kathie is finally getting some time with the Babies and Tops teachers.  However, they began to paint their rooms today, so her time was cut short.  We pray tomorrow she gets more time to work with these teachers. We so much want to use her skills in this area.  Make this a prayer item today.

While Mike and J.W. were slaving away finishing the library, the ladies went out into the neighboring village and handed out more dresses.  I will let Mary tell you about that:

Imagine a "Free" sale at Dillards or Macy's, better yet, Nieman's!  Well, that is exactly what I imagined.  The young girls, from 3 months to teenage years, waited patiently for their turn to "shop" for a dress.   The church was filled with the girls from the village and while we were waiting, we could see little trails of girls walking from their homes  to the church.  Our team of women, once again set up the make shift "Dress Shop".  While we waited, Betty from the Lulwanda Children's Home led the girls in singing praise choruses in their native language.  We clapped, sang, and prayed that God would cover these young women with His grace and mercy.  We prayed that they would be reminded of His love for them and to attend church on Sunday to hear the preaching of the Word.  We prayed that as they put on their dresses the love of God would flood over them and allow them to feel Christ's love.

After just about 30 minutes, and about 300 dresses, yes I said 300 hundred dresses, we gathered the girls outside for a photo.  My lense was not able to capture all the girls in one photo so I  took three different pictures.  Together they will make a wonderful picture.  I would like to thank, "Little Dresses for Africa" Ministry for donating all the dresses that were handed out this week.  Before leaving, we prayed together for God's protection for each of the hearts, their minds, and their souls.  Pat Sligh had a blast assisting the girls in selecting their dresses.  Audrey and Stephanie both found babies to hold while we were assisting with the dresses.

The team of ladies trully enjoyed being with a church full of young girls that will someday be the women of the church and village.  As we walked back to the school, we shared with one another and the Mommas from Lulwanda how God had truly touched each of our hearts in so many ways this week.

Our team has had many facets of ministry this week.  I believe tomorrow night in the blog, we will try and share all the great things God has empowered us to do this week.

It is late and we are truly ready for a good night's sleep.  Thanks again for your prayers and encouraging words.  Each day we are so aware of how God is using us and answering so many prayers.  You are here with us in Uganda through your prayers.
Love, Mary

I will close with a humorous note:  each night at dinner I read all the comments from the blog.  Tonight, something got into Josh and Marc (who just so happen to be rooming together).  Theri wives ended their comment with "hugs and kisses to ____, so they each gave each other a kiss and hug as it was read.  The pastor and chariman of the deacons may be getting too close!  Ha!

Good night to all.  Continue to pray.  Tomorrow is another long day.

  2. Oh, those guys. -- On to the serious stuff. Pat, I finally finished that sone I started in church recently-about a month and a half ago. I guess without Marc here to distract me I had more time at the keyboard. He will say that I have all the time I want all the time, but it is a good excuse. Marc, lawn is done. Yard looks great from all the rain. I weeded some today but not much needs work except that lantana needs to have another hair cut. Josh, you had better be good as David E. could become your replacemet. Watch it! JW, we missed you at SS yesterday. Keep your fingers out of the saw. Marc can fill you in on tools and stiches. Jill and Audry, everything is good on the home front. All your family was there present, accounted for, and clean as far as I could tell even without mom.

Hugs to some and NO kisses tonight!

    LOVE:
    Glenna

  3. Hello to all... I have read the post everyday, but have had trouble with blogging back... So here goes another try. I have had a smile on my face with each reading, and even felt a little teary-eyed with joy at the stories of the little girls, with their dresses, and the children with their books. The picture of JW sitting on the floor reading to the children was actually very touching. .. JW, why are they always picking on you??? Josh, I really look forward to your blog regarding your preaching. LIke Glenna said David E did a great job Sunday... Oh!! I am through with the book, and now have to go back and read Wild at Heart, and then Sacrad Romance, and look forward to discussion..Jill,.. Izzy, and Jesus are apparently doing a good job, the boys looked good, and I did not note any crutches, casts, or stitches.
Audrey, I hope to hear all your stories!! Hug those babies for me!! You are a truly beautiful young woman. .. And Marc, Billy Jack will be very jealous that you got to kiss Josh...
ON a serious note, I am wshing I could have gone with you, but I feel like I am there in spirit. Cont the good work. Sleep well when you can, and know that we love and miss you all.

  4. It's so amazing to read about all these wonderful events that are happening over at the children's home. I'm so happy and excited to hear about the completion of the library, and my prayers go out to the team and all the children who will greatly benefit from the accomplishment of a completed library. The story of the "Dress Shop" sounded unbelievable. I can't even imagine the excitement of those young ladies as they were provided a dress.
On a home based note, things are going great here. There have not been any problems and I can't wait to see you guys to hear about all the wonderful events that occurred during these two weeks.

    Love,
    Reid

  5. Greetings from Branson,
Well..it sounds as if you have had another productive day in the Lord. I know that you have to be both tired and wired all at the same time. God is good!! My prayers tonight and tomorrow will be that Kathie gets to work with the pre-school teachers and that teaching the children to use the typing program, as well as the library, will go smoothly.
Gentlemen (you know who you are) BEHAVE!!! It would be ashame if the church has to start limiting who can travel and room together!
I feel as if I am always commenting something on Josh or Marc, but it seems as if everyone else is doing their job and staying out of trouble. Way to go people!!
Mike and Mary, I appreciate the effort you have made to keep the blog up to date. It has truly been a blessing to read.
I pray for a restful night and another productive day ahead.
    Blessings to you all,
    Vicki

  6. I told Josh when I talked to him today (YEAH!!!) that at the end of my comment on the blog yesterday, I almost said "Who has been giving Marc all those kisses from Glenna? Why does Josh's name come to mind..." But I deleted it, not sure of who would be reading this and what the perception would be of those who didn't know Josh - I guess I shouldn't have worried about that!! :)
Once again, it sounds like everything is going wonderfully - God is working in and through you all! Josh shared with me a few stories that touched my heart. I wanted the conversation to go on and on as there were so many amazing things to hear! I can't wait for you all to get home and hear everyone's perspectives!
The pool party went great tonight! We had at least 100 there. Lots of helpers to cook hotdogs and some very yummy ice cream and other goodies.
I'm not sure how much Josh has shared with you Jill, but the children's theater went well this morning. Andrew wasn't too sure about the singing and dancing so Evelyn told him he could help her back stage. He was pretty happy about that! They are all doing great! You really have some great kids! I have a quick story to tell you about Ethan. Isabella has been trying to read "The Wizard of Oz" to the boys, she said that they got hung up on the tornado part. We were eating lunch the other day and the boys started talking about tornados. Sweet little Ethan said "Miss Jill, I not scared of tornados because if they get you, Jesus is a really good catcher." I thought that was pretty insightful! Josh, the misting system, fan and blinds/green shade have been working!! Titus has not dug anywhere in the yard this whole time!! Success!!
Mary, what a wonderful prayer you all prayed over those girls as they tried on their new dresses. It sounds like it was such a beautiful experience! My heart and prayers are with you! Hugs and kisses from ME to Josh! : ) Love you guys! Keep up the great work!!
    Love,
    Jill Stowe

  7. Congratulations on the completion of the library, and what an accomplishment! I wish I could have been there to see you help the girls with their dresses. What a blessing you have been to them, which is obvious by your blog, and I know they have been a blessing to you as you minister to them. I send you my uplifted prayers for continued good works as you complete your week. Love to Pat, my mother. Wish I could give you a big hug! Carrie Greathouse Lee, Arlington, Virginia

  8. Congratulations! My wife and are also putting together a primary school library in Uganda, in the far west near Fort Portal. Can you share with us any information about Uganda customs duties on donated books that are brought into Uganda for a primary school library? Thanks and keep up the good work!
